Trainer Andrew ♂, Johto Day 2: The Grind

It turns out that being a Name Rater’s secretary doesn’t exactly rake in the big money, or, more importantly, enough to rent a room.  My boss forwarded me next week’s paycheck so I could get my bearings, but this means I’m now just into a new region and already in the hole.  Fantastic.

Looking for more work, I decided it might be a good idea to moonlight (I’m not sure if that’s applicable here, but I’ll use it anyway) at the local gym.  Being a trainer of - and I just learned this term - normal type pokémon, I like to think that I’m a perfect fit to be there.

Although, I don’t like the idea of my pokémon being considered “normal”, as they are all special in their own way.  Even Magikarp was special… before he disappeared.

Walking in, I was quickly accosted by a group of Beautiful Lasses.  Shirking them off, they lead me to their boss in just THE most confusing pattern.  You think they would install a shortcut or something.  They filled me in that people called Gym Leader Whitney the “Incredibly Pretty Girl”.  I asked if that didn’t defeat the idea of a normal gym to be incredibly anything, but my comments fell on deaf ears.

Whitney was, actually, much more plain looking than anybody under such a moniker should be, but she listened to my story and gave me a job at the gym right then and there.

The rest of the day was pretty boring.  I did enjoy this a hell of a lot more then my previous gym-guarding experience, but I think I might be overqualified.  Everyone that comes in here, there pokémon are at (if I had to assign a number according to their ability) level 20 or so.  Not bad, I suppose, but all my pokémon are closer to (again, I’ll use the same fictional scale) probably 60 or higher.  I hope this doesn’t mean I’m overqualified or anything, I mean most of the trainers I fought I just utterly annihilated.  I don’t think this is fair.

But, this got me thinking.  Why wouldn’t all gyms be at the same level of difficulty as all the others?  Is there some sort of “path” that one must progress along that might determine which gyms are suited for one’s ability?  Are we all not, as it were, Klinks in some grand mechanism that drives us all.  Have we any choice, any real semblance of free will?

I really should pay more attention, Pinsir may have just mortally wounded another Miltank.  Poor thing.

Herp de depridy derp I'm dumb,
Trainer Andrew ♂
